There are two major differences between the two methods and the rate at which they transmit data. Female network 802.11g requires Ad hoc communication mode to support 11Mbps bandwidth unlike 54Mbps data transmission is supported using infrastructure mode. Ad hoc mode is therefore considered to be slower than infrastructure mode.
